Family: Plantaginaceae (Plantain family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: April - June

Thyme-leaf Speedwell initially grows low to the ground then will start to grow upright. The prostrate stems bear erect flowering branches up to about 25 cm high. Its leaves mostly lack teeth and are hairless or nearly so. Its whitish or pale blue flowers with dark lines are 2–8 mm wide.

Thyme-leaf Speedwell has two subspecies:
  • Veronica serpyllifolia ssp. serpyllifolia was introduced from Eurasia and is the subspecies commonly found in the Mid-Atlantic area.
  • Veronica serpyllifolia ssp. humifusa is native to New England.
