Family: Asteraceae (Aster / Sunflower family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: August - October

Silverrod gets both its common names and species epithet 'bicolor' from its white to cream-colored flowers with yellow parts. Its basal and lower stem leaves are larger than the upper stem leaves, and have longer petioles than the upper leaves, which may be sessile. Its flower heads are mostly clustered in the axils of the leaves rather than in a large terminal raceme.
