Mid-Atlantic bloom time: April - May
Mid-Atlantic fruit ripe: September - November

Common Greenbrier is a prickly vine with green, woody stems that can reach up to 10 meters or more and form dense thickets. Its stout prickles are up to 12 mm long and are green at the base and dark at their apex. Its 4–12 cm leaves are rounded, giving it its species epithet 'rotundifolia'. Its flowers are borne in clusters. Common Greenbrier's fruits are 5–8 mm round berries that are blue-black to black.
