Family: Caryophyllaceae (Pink family)
Mid-Atlantic bloom time: April - July
Wild Pink's white to dark pink petals are usually slightly jagged (pinked) at their tips, and their reproductive structures are typically exerted beyond the petals. The flowers are borne in dense cymes, with 513 flowers per cyme.
Note: Wild Pink's flowers often appear at the same and in a similar habitat as Wild Blue Phlox (Phlox divaricata), which they can superficially resemble. Wild Blue Phlox's petals typically only have a single notch at their tip, and their reproductive structures are typically not protruding, i.e., they are well within the flower tube and may not be visible.
