Purple Passionflower is one of the most spectacular native flowers to our region. It's a perennial vine whose ripe fruits are sometimes called maypops.
Traditionally, Purple Passionflower has been used as a herbal medicine for a variety of conditions, and its fruits have been used in james, jellies and desserts, and its juice used as a drink flavoring. The ripe fruits purportedly have a slightly sweet-tart taste and pleasant scent.
