Virginia Creeper is a common climbing vine throughout the mid-Atlantic region, often seen in the same locals as Poison Ivy (Toxicodendron radicans). It can be easily be distinguished by its characteristic palmately compount leaves composed of five leaflets. The genus name Parthenocissus is Greek and means "virgin ivy" (i.e., Virginia ivy); the species name quinquefolia is Latin and means "five-leaved".
