Family: Oxalidaceae (Wood-sorrel family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: April - May (sometimes later with self-pollinating flowers that don't open)

Violet Wood-sorrel is a perennial that has no true stems. Instead, it bears alternate, 3-part leaves atop long, slender petioles. Its purple to violet flowers are borne on peduncles overtopping the leaves. Its flower's sepals are usually tipped with orange glands.

Note that the 'official' blooom time may actually extend into late summer.
