Mid-Atlantic bloom time: April - June
Mid-Atlantic fruit ripe: August - October

Black Gum is an important source of food for bees and many migrating birds. Its wood is hard and tough and is used for many applications where resistance to wear and cracking are important. For example, it is considered to be one of the best woods for making railroad ties.
