Family: Caprifoliaceae (Honeysuckle family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: April - July
Mid-Atlantic fruit ripe: August - October

Japanese Honeysuckle is a climbing vine that has opposite, evergreen, non-serrated leaves. Its flowers start as white or pink, and turn yellow with age. Its fruits are round, black berries

Japanese Honeysuckle is native to east Asia, but has become nearly ubiquitous throughout our area. It was initially brought to the U.S. from Japan in the early 1800s as an ornamental plant. Once established, it grows rapidly and quickly outcompetes native plants for sunlight and nutrients.
