Family: Campanulaceae (Bellflower family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: late May - August

Pale-spiked Lobelia is a short-lived perennial, usually flowering below taller grasses and forbs. It produces a spike of white or pale blue flowers in the summer.

Pale-spiked Lobelia has several sub-species, including:
  –  Lobelia spicata var. spicata, the typical variety with leaves on its stem the same size as any basal leaves, if present.
  –  Lobelia spicata var. scaposa, which has mostly basal leaves, with only a few, much smaller stem leaves.
