Mid-Atlantic fruit ripe: June - July

Like other orchids, Showy Orchis needs a symbiotic relationship with a fungus in its roots in order to obtain nutrients. For this species, it is thought that it only forms this relationship with fungi in the genus Ceratobasidium.
