Family: Dioscoreaceae (Yam family)
Mid-Atlantic bloom time: June - August
Chinese Yam is a twining vine that is native to East Asia. Its has alternate or 3-whorled leaves that are halberd-shaped, unlike the cordate-to-ovate shape of Wild Yam (Dioscorea villosa)'s leaves. It also forms small potato-like aerial tubers on its stems, which Wild Yam never does.
