Family: Brassicaceae

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: March - May

Mid-Atlantic fruit ripe: April - May

Flowering in early spring with white or very pale pink flowers, Cut-leaf Toothwort typically has three sets of leaves coming off its stem at time of flowering. Each set comprises 3-5 leaflets which are deeply cut into lobes or teeth. No basal leaves are present at flowering time.

Compare with Slender Toothwort (Cardamine angustata) which usually has only two sets of leaves coming off its stem, only slightly cut leaflets, and which may have larger, ovoid basal leaves at flowering time. Slender Toothwort's flowers tend to be pinker than Cut-leaf Toothwort's white or almost white flowers (except in bud stage).
