Family: Berberidaceae (Barberry family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: December - March
Mid-Atlantic fruit ripe: May - July

Chinese Mahonia is an invasive evergreen shrub in the Mid-Atlantic area, growing to 2 meters high. At a distance, one might mistake it for a holly, but its leaves are pinnate and clustered near the top of its stems. Its berries are dark blue and smooth.
