Path Rush is a tough little plant, and true to its common name, it's often found on dirt paths, holding up well despite foot traffic. Path Rush characteristics include:

• perennial, with straight, wiry, dark green culms (stalks)
• flowers are born singly (separated, not in tight clusters) in a symmetrical branching pattern at the stem tip
• leaves are flat (not cylindrical) and of uniform thickness (without multiple node-like thickened septa within the leaf blade)
• auricles (small extensions of the leaf sheaths) are short, not toothed or fringed, and with a dried out marginal band
