Order: Boletales
Family: Sclerodermatineae

Calostoma lutescens is so strange looking and distinctive that it's hard to imagine it doesn't have a common name. Its fruiting body has a yellow globe around 1.5 - 3 cm diameter, with a puckered top with "lips" that are often red. The diagnostic feature is its tattered collar and pedestal that looks like half-digested pasta.

The only other species in our area that looks like Calostoma lutescens is the closely related and less common Calostoma ravenelii, but C. ravenelii lacks the collar that C. lutescens has.
